It’s a San Diego tradition to spend at least one day in the sweltering heat at the Del Mar Fair in June.
Swathes of people, food stalls all seeking to answer the question WHAT CAN’T BE FRIED, endless halls of merchants selling things no one needs, despondent farm animals, and rides that make you wonder if you’ll get off alive.
I wasn’t able to go back home during the month of December this year and I was missing all the holiday festivities, so my mom sent Christmas to me. She sent a box filled with a miniature tree, ornaments, lights, and a stocking. My apartment is so festive now!
Also, fox slippers!
When my mom visited in October, we hit up the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco. John and I had been there before, but it’s always fun. It’s part zoo and part museum, with a lot of neat stuff. This time around, they had baby ostriches!
I never pass up an opportunity to photograph a butterfly.

I got back from my trip to Florida last week, where we visited Universal Studios for The Wizarding World of Harry Potter and Disney World.
I got some halfway decent pictures, and I also got to try butterbeer, which is delicious!
I’ve done very little vegan baking, until tonight. I baked some banana bread and it came out really well. It’s tasty and moist – one loaf with chocolate chips and one without. I definitely prefer the chocolate kind!
I’ve also been trying to get my camera out more often. At least every other day, so my pictures are slowly getting better. I’m also still reading the manual, then I’ll move on to other camera books. Here’s a couple I took of Jamie at the park:
